About this quiz

Career scoring average is unforgiving: it includes the decline years that counting stats reward. A player has to be both a dominant scorer and willing to retire before the average slips.

That is why this list is so short, and why it contains names that the 20,000-point club does not. The two quizzes together are a neat demonstration of peak versus longevity.

How to beat the clock

  • Peak scorers, not accumulators — this is the opposite of the 20,000-point list.
  • Players who retired early are over-represented.
  • A 400-game minimum applies, so brief hot streaks don't count.

How answers are matched

Type a full name, or just a surname when it is unambiguous — “Jordan” counts on a list with one Jordan, but a list with several Johnsons asks for the first name too. Capitalisation, punctuation and accents are all ignored, so “o neal” and “O’Neal’ are the same answer. The clock starts when you do, and a correct name clears the box so you can keep typing.
