Name every Defensive Player of the Year
Every winner of the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award.
About this quiz
Introduced in 1982-83, Defensive Player of the Year is the shortest of the major award lists — which makes it one of the few quizzes here you can realistically finish.
It has historically rewarded rim protection, so the list skews towards centres and shot-blockers. The guards who have won it are rare enough that they are worth memorising on their own.
How to beat the clock
- Think shot-blockers first — the award has always favoured them.
- Only a handful of guards have ever won it. Name them early.
- Several winners took it multiple times, so the list is shorter than the number of seasons.
How answers are matched
Type a full name, or just a surname when it is unambiguous — “Jordan” counts on a list with one Jordan, but a list with several Johnsons asks for the first name too. Capitalisation, punctuation and accents are all ignored, so “o neal” and “O’Neal’ are the same answer. The clock starts when you do, and a correct name clears the box so you can keep typing.
