The short version
Own the Court is a free browser game. You can play everything without an account: the game gives you a random guest identity (like Baller_423) and stores your progress in your own browser. The only things that reach our servers are your nickname, an anonymous random ID, and your game results. Signing in (Google or email) is optional — it only exists so your streaks and bests follow you across devices.
Data stored in your browser (localStorage)
The game uses your browser's localStorage — not cookies — to make the game work. This data stays on your device and is never used for advertising or tracking:
- Guest profile — a randomly generated ID, your nickname, your best solo score, and your win/loss record.
- Game saves— the state of an unfinished Solo, Pass & Play, or Beat the Bot game, so you can pick up where you left off.
- Online room ticket — the room code and seat token of an active online match, so you can reconnect if the page reloads.
- Pending score — a finished solo score queued for submission if you were offline when the game ended.
- Preferences — your theme (light/dark) and sound (mute) choices, plus your cookie/ads consent choice.
This storage is strictly functional — it exists only so the game you asked for works. You can wipe all of it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this website.
Data stored on our servers
- Leaderboard scores — when you finish a Solo Run, we store your random guest ID, nickname, players used, and completion time so you can appear on the public leaderboard. Your nickname is visible to other players; the random ID is not tied to your identity in any way.
- Online match rooms — while you play Challenge a Friend, the room code, both nicknames, and the board state live on our server so the game can sync between the two of you. Rooms are deleted automatically about two hours after the last activity.
Optional account & cloud sync
If you sign in with Google or email (powered by Supabase Auth), we additionally store your email address and a cloud copy of your game stats — streaks, best scores, and your guest profile — so they restore on any device. The sign-in session lives in your browser's localStorage, not in cookies. We never post, email, or share anything; Google sign-in only tells us your email address. To delete your account and its cloud data, email contact@hexhoops.com and we'll remove both.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to see anonymous, aggregated statistics such as page views and loading performance. These tools do not use cookies, do not track you across other websites, and do not build a profile of you.
Advertising & cookies
The game itself sets no cookies. To keep it free we show ads from Google AdSense — but only if you accept them in the consent banner. If you accept, Google may set cookies to show, measure, and personalize ads; see how Google uses information from partner sites. If you decline, no ads are shown and no ad cookies are set — nothing else changes.
Your choices
- Change your nickname any time from the main menu — pick anything non-identifying.
- Delete local databy clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Everything listed above disappears.
- Remove a leaderboard entry — email contact@hexhoops.com and we'll delete your score and nickname from the leaderboard.
Children
The game collects no personal information from anyone, including children. Nicknames are free-form, so please don't use your real name if you don't want it shown on the leaderboard.
Changes
If we ever change what data the game handles, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
